Hero Collector continues to expand its line of collectable model starships with the new Star Trek Starfleet Starships Collection!
This new series of models focuses on the iconic vessels of the Federation Starfleet spanning the original run of television series and movies and includes such venerable ships as the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, USS Voyager NCC-74656, USS Defiant NX-74205, and the legendary Enterprise NX-01.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking: hasn’t Hero Collector already released these models? Yes, yes they have. But this is a new collection to which we can subscribe, much like the original Official Starships Collection, which recently came to an end after 180 issues.
This collection solely covers the ships of Starfleet and consists of models which have already been released, many of which are hard to come by now. The utility of this collection for those of us with specific goals, such as having all of the ships from the Battle of Wolf 359 or Star Trek: First Contact, is crystal clear. Plus, it’s a chance for new fans to have an iconic Starfleet ship sent to their homes every month.
With that out of the way, let’s find out about some of the first ships of the new collection! There will be over 60 in total!
U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701-D
Captain Jean-Luc Picard commanded the crew of this spectacular 24th century Federation Galaxy-class starship. The fifth Federation starship to proudly bear the name Enterprise, she served as the Federation flagship from 2363 until her destruction in 2371.
U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205
Starfleet commissioned this Defiant-class craft, the prototype of its class, as part of an effort to shore up its defences following ill-fated first contact with the Borg. The ship served Commander Sisko and Deep Space 9 well, particularly during the Dominion War, but was destroyed in 2375.
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701
Arguably the most revered craft in all of Starfleet (and Star Trek), the Enterprise was a 23rd century Federation Constitution-class starship. It was captained by Robert April, Christopher Pike and the legend himself, James T. Kirk.
Enterprise NX-01
The first-ever NX-class starship, the NX-01 was launched – under the command of Captain Jonathan Archer — by the United Earth Starfleet in 2151. Among its numerous accomplishments, the NX-01 helped destroy the Xindi weapon. The ship was retired in 2161.
U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656
A 24th century Federation Intrepid-class starship, the highly sophisticated Voyager became stranded in the Delta Quadrant in 2371. Though all aboard expected it to take 75 years to return home, Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew made it back to their loved ones in seven years.
The ships in the Star Trek Starfleet Starships Collection, like all of Hero Collector’s ship models, are all designed to be as screen-accurate as possible, with CBS Studios overseeing every phase of production – and all of the ships are made of die-cast metal and high-quality resin and carefully hand-painted. Further, all the starships – which span the franchise, from the original series Star Trek and the first 10 feature films to the present-day – are produced at the same scale to maintain collection compatibility and come with a base and stand for easy display.
I own several of these models, and I can tell you they are fantastic. The models are highly accurate representations of the ships, and many of them are made from the original CG files used on the show (for those which were rendered in CGI). Each includes a magazine describing in-universe details of the ship, as well as behind-the-scenes information including original design sketches, concept art, and interviews with the artists and designers who originated the ships.
