Discovery Comic-Con Panel Recap

When season two ended we knew the Discovery would be jumping 930 years into the future… Or so we thought. During today’s Hall H panel, Discovery joint showrunner Alex Kurtzman went into more detail about what to expect in the third season of CBS All Access’s flagship show.

One key thing he mentioned, Discovery has in fact jumped closer to 1000 years into the future and they are not where they are meant to be.

“As you know we made a pretty radical jump into the future in season two, we are going almost 1000 years into the future in season 3, further than any Trek has gone before”

(CBS) Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) – NOT Terralysium

When asked about what to expect and how Season three will feel compare to season two Kurtzman had this to say:

“I like to lead every conversation about how we create Star Trek with that we filter it through Gene Roddenberry’s vision of optimism, which can never really change because it is the spirt and sole of Trek for all of us”

He went on to add:

“But there will be lots and lots of huge changes in season three”

“There will be things you recognize and don’t recognize,”

“We get to honour canon, but we get to shake up everything,” [adding] “we’re not erasing anything, so please do not worry about that”

(CBS) Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland Booker, “Book” for short, (David Ajala)

Moving onto Discovery lead Martin-Green, she teased the room by saying :

“As you can see, we are not in Terralysium, we do not land there like we planned”

“We were able to shoot in Iceland which was fantasic”

Kurtzman added:

“They have big problems,”

Moving on to the character development in season three, Alex Kurtzman mentioned Burham’s character will go through some “Discovery”

“Burnham goes through a lot of changes, and she bears the big responsibility of taking the Discovery crew through a wormhole”

(CBS) David Ajala as Cleveland “Book” Booker

New Casting

Season three will feature lots of new character, during the panel today we were introduced to David Ajala (Manchester Black on Supergirl) who will join the crew of Discovery as Cleveland Booker or “Book” for short.

he is described as:

Smart and capable, Ajala’s Book has a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out.

When asked Ajala just said:

“Book is going to be a character that breaks the rules a little bit.”

There is no news on a season three release date yet, but during the panel, the team said it takes eight months to work on the VFX and make Discovery look like a movie. so Discovery season three is likely to be mid-2020 at the earliest.
