Discovery Episodes 9 & 10, Chapter 2 Commencement Date

This weekend will air the mid-season finale Episode 9 “Into the Forest I Go”, this episode will pick up where we left off in episode 8, with the imminent arrival of the “sarcophagus” ship, Lorca ignores Starfleet’s orders and decides to use the Discovery to end the war with the Klingons once and for all.

In the promo trailer released last weekend, we grab a quick look of the Discovery engaging the Klingons using the spore drive to jump in and out while firing upon the sarcophagus ship, along with this we get two other important tidbits of info, Burnham challenging Kol to prove his worth in combat, and while Lieutenant Paul Stamets is in the spore chamber, Dr Hugh Culber shouting “we have to abort now”.

We know that the use of the spore drive does not last into the next half of the season, so is this the final nail in the coffin as it were, and the reason we find out why this tech was not used in other incarnations of Star Trek.

Furthermore today CBS announced that Discovery’s second chapter will commence, Sunday 7th January with episode 10 titled “Despite Yourself”, the official synopsis for episode 10 is as follows

While in unfamiliar territory, the U.S.S. Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home.

Little is known about the second half of the series, but one thing we do know is Episode 10 is directed by TNG Alumni Jonathan Frakes, and that means one thing, Mirror Universe here we come, further to the information about him directing, Frakes himself dropped an significant tidbit of info, back in September, on a stop on The Continuing Voyage convention tour in Chicago, during The Next Generation reunion panel, he shared that Discovery will be travelling to the Mirror Universe, therefore along with the official synopsis and this info, it is a safe bet that either during episode 10 or at the end in a cliffhanger, we will see something happen and the Discovery will end up in the mirror universe, one thing is for sure it is going to be a PAINFUL! Two-month break until we get to see what sounds like an awesome episode.
