Teen Trek Is A Go, A New CG Animated Star Trek Is On Its Way

CBS and Nickelodeon are set to team up to bring a CG animated Star Trek series to the air.

Back in February, it was reported that a second animated show was to be produced by CBS in combination with Kevin and Dan Hageman the writers of the Emmy award-winning animated series Trollhunters and The LEGO Movie. This new show will be joining the more adult-themed “Star Trek: Lower Decks” as CBS move into the animated world of Star Trek.

On Wednesday, CBS officially announced they had greenlit the new project, described as an opportunity to expand Star Trek for a new generation of fans.

Alex Kurtzman in a statement said:

“‘Star Trek’s’ mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,”

“Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honours its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.”

Dan and Kevin Hageman added:

“Star Trek,’ Nickelodeon, and the state of animation are doing incredibly ambitious things as of late. We couldn’t be more excited to jump aboard,”

The new series will be produced by CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman. Aaron Baiers will serve as a co-executive producer.

CBS described the new show as:

The new untitled original CG animated series follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning, and salvation.

Unlike Discovery, the upcoming Picard series and all the shows currently in development, the new Nickelodeon show will be the first of the Star Trek expanded universe not appear on CBS All Access.

Nothing more is known about this new show, however, as soon as we find out more we will update you.
