Welcoming @TrekkieRob To The Team

Firstly, a massive thanks to the Treksphere team (@TrekSphere on twitter), in particular, James Hams, for introducing me to Trek Sphere and giving me the chance to contribute to the website as a Star Trek fan and all-around geek.

A little bit about me…

My name is Rob Chapman (@TrekkieRob on twitter), I live in Kent in the U.K. with my partner, Emma and my cat Loki, who both tolerate my love of all things Star Trek and geeky in general. I’ve been a Star Trek fan on and off for about 20 years. I discovered Star Trek in about 1998 (aged 12) with DS9 and Voyager being my route into Trek. I’d seen the odd episode of TNG and TOS before but hadn’t really paid them that much attention.

(CBS) U.S.S. Voyager

Along came DS9 and Voyager and I was hooked almost immediately. I would watch them religiously with my dad and it was a time which we would spend together doing something that we both enjoyed. As I got older and GCSEs, A Levels and studying for a History degree at University took over my life, I lost touch with Star Trek. I rediscovered my love of Star Trek in 2016 when I came across Trek.fm on twitter and a few other Star Trek podcasts and YouTube channels, most notably Trek Live, Trekkerprise, Trek Ranks and 10Backwards. Not only did these podcasts and YouTube channels reinvigorate my love of Star Trek, they gave me new Trek content and opened up the Star Trek fandom to me, which I had no idea existed and was so active, engaging, friendly and welcoming. It has been so much fun connecting with other Star Trek fans and geeks and nerds in general and I have made some lifelong friends because of it.

(FOX) The Crew of the TV Show “The Orville”

As well as my love for all things Star Trek I also am a big fan of sci-fi in general (particularly Battlestar Galactica, The Orville, Stargate and Star Wars to name a few). I am a fan of tv (a few of my favourite TV shows include: The West Wing, ER, The Office, Rick and Morty, Bob’s Burgers, Game of Thrones and House of Cards) and film in general (a few of my film favourites include: Halloween, The Burbs, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Little Miss Sunshine, Insidious, Alien franchise, James Bond and Nightmare on Elm Street). I love a good board game (Risk, Monopoly, Dead of Winter, Pandemic, SmallWorld) and have dabbled in the past in Magic The Gathering card game.

How I am going to contribute to Treksphere…

I plan to, at least for now, provide reviews and insights into all things Star Trek. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Star Trek series, episode, character, species and ship reviews,
  • Star Trek Book Reviews (via @TrekBookClub – my Star Trek Book Club on Twitter and podcast),
  • Star Trek Merchandise and Product Reviews,
  • Star Trek Convention Reviews.

I can’t wait to start contributing to Trek Sphere and I hope you’ll enjoy my content. I look forward to interacting with you via Trek Sphere and twitter – I’m always up for chatting with fellow Star Trek fans and geeks in general so do get in touch! my twitter link is below.

Until next time, LLAP!
