The Type One phaser was the handheld personal defence weapon of Starfleet. This nifty palm-sized device was strong enough to melt through metal, heat up rock, stunning multiple targets and if necessary. killing attackers.
Originally designed by Matt Jefferies for the 1960s show, the Type One was one of two major designs seen within the Original Series. The Phaser would go through a minor change between seasons.
