RJC – Star Trek Retrospective – Star Trek: Voyager

This series of Star Trek Retrospectives chronicles the behind the scenes history of the Star Trek franchise. The conceptualisation and development of each new instalment and their impact on fandom as well as pop culture at large.

After Star Trek: Deep Space Nine proved it could be successful alongside a new slate of Star Trek movies, Paramount quickly commissioned the third spin-off in Star Trek: Voyager.

Voyager was created by Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and Jeri Taylor. premiering on January 16, 1995, it ran for 172 episodes over seven seasons. and its final episode “Endgame” aired on May 23, 2001. The show was the fifth series in the Star Trek franchise, it is the fourth after Star Trek: The Original Series. Set in the year 2371 (24th century) following the adventures of the Starfleet vessel USS Voyager and captained by the franchise FIRST female Captain, Kathryn Janeway.

Voyager Crew
(Paramount+) The Crew Of Voyager Season 4 Onwards

The crew of Voyager was stranded in the Delta Quadrant by a race called The Nacene aka The Caretaker. Joined by a Maquis raider both crews come together to form one family as they explore uncharted space full of new races and some old ones on their 70,000 light-year journey home.

The journey back to the Alpha Quadrant would have taken more than seventy years but thanks to the skills of the crew and many shortcuts a trip that would have lasted a lifetime took the crew only seven years to achieve, after making first contact with over four hundred completely new species in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Janeway was promoted to Admiral.

While the show enjoyed goodwill from fans at the time, the legacy of Voyager these days is a little more mixed.
