The cast and crew of Star Trek: Discovery walked away with three big wins this Friday night at the 45th annual Saturn Awards, they won all three awards they were nominated for, and it was a first for Discovery actor Doug Jones.

Back in July, we reported that Discovery had been nominated for not one but three awards this year, Best Streaming Science Fiction, Action, & Fantasy Series, Best Actress in a Streaming Presentation and Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Presentation.

In attendance for Team Discovery were Doug Jones, co-showrunner and executive producer Michelle Paradise, with writer/producers Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt.

For Best Streaming Science Fiction, Action, & Fantasy Series, Discovery was up against some stiff competition with shows like Black Mirror, The Expanse, Good Omens, Jack Ryan, Lost in Space, Russian Doll in the same category. Accepting the award for this outstanding victory, series star Doug Jones with co-showrunner and executive producer Michelle Paradise headed up on stage to accept the award.

“Thank you so much to the achedmy, and thank you for having included us in this catagory in the first place, those shows are amazing [refering to the other nominees], I am happy to accept this on behalf of Alex who is on set right now making some season 3 magic, so he can’t be hee tonight but he says thank you aswell.”

She went on to add:

“Thank you on behalf of our entire writing staff, our support staff. thank you on behalf of our incredible team of actors, the most amazing crew, our department heads, everyone in post [production] in Toronto, here in Los Angeles and around the world. Thank you on behalf of team Roddenberry. Thank you on behalf of our partners at Secret Hideout, CBS All Access and CBS Studios. It’s such an amazing thing to get to go to work every day and work on this show.

Doug Jones Accepting His Award For Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Presentation

Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Presentation, not only were the cast up against other shows, House On Haunted Hill and Lost In Space but they were also competing up against one another, with Wilson Cruz, Ethan Peck and Doug Jones all vying for the same category. Winning this category Doug Jones made an emotional speech when accepting this award.

“Wow thank you, The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, is the one academy voting body that gets me, and you’re my people and I thank you dearly from the bottom of my heart for that.

(speaking about his award) this is the one I have always converted, and to take this home is going to be, I’m never gonna let it go now.

I also need to thank everyone at CBS All Access, Secruit Hideout, Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise; thank you and the entire writers’ room, for giving me such luscious material and a layered character with depth that is unusual for an alien—so I thank you for letting me be Saru.

Also to my makeup team. It takes a village to make a Kelpian. Everyone at Alchemy Labs: Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page, James MacKinnon and the entire team in the season two makeup trailer, I would not be as pretty as I am without you.”

Sonequa Martin-Green Accepts Her Award Via A Pre-Recorded Thank You Speech

Last but no means least, the amazing Sonequa Martin-Green beat other nominees in her category Carla Gugino, Elizabeth Lail, Natasha Lyonne, Molly Parker, Krysten Ritter, and Kiernan Shipka from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to win Best Actress in a Streaming Presentation,

Unlike her costar, she was not there in person to accept the award and instead made her thank yous in a pre-recorded video on the set of Discovery, thanking the academy, the series crew and the fans.

The new season of Star Trek: Discovery is now filming in Toronto, and is set to return next year.
