UPDATED – UK Broadcaster Picks Up Star Trek: Discovery In “Linear TV Deal”

For those in the UK who have been waiting to see the award-winning Star Trek: Discovery but have been hesitant to pay for Netflix has been given a lifeline and in 2020 will be able to watch on the UK TV channel E4.

Today CBS announced it has signed a deal with UK broadcaster Channel 4 (MIPCOM) to air reruns of the hit show starting with season one.

Along with Discovery, Channel 4 has also signed a deal to broadcast Matt Leblanc’s new comedy “Man With a Plan

In the press release Barry Chamberlain, President of Sales, CBS Studios International. Said this:

“We’re excited to bring the linear television rights for Star Trek: Discovery to the international market and launch in the UK with our valued friends at Channel 4″,

This agreement features the best of both worlds — premium subscription content from a global franchise and a very popular network comedy from America’s Most-Watched Network. Channel 4 is already a licensee for several of our top-rated franchises, including The Good Fight and Charmed, and we are confident they will have continued success with Star Trek: Discovery and Man With A Plan.”

Season one of Discovery along with LeBlanc’s new comedy will hit UK screens in 2020.

UPDATE

Seeking confirmation we spoke to CBS directly to establish what this would mean for all-new seasons of Discovery and for the seasons already on Netflix we were told:

Season 3 will be on Netflix.

This is linear deal for season 1 and currently only season 1.

Prior seasons remain on Netflix as well as the upcoming seasons….this is in addition

So this means Netflix continues to retain the exclusive rights to the new seasons of the show, so season three of Discovery will STILL air on Netflix and will drop on the streaming platform as usual in 2020.
