Discovery season 4 hits our screens this week and after an explosive season 3, the new season has a lot to live up to.
The premiere episode titled “Kobayashi Maru” brings our new Discovery captain Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew back to face a new threat, one like we have not seen before.
Who Is This Seasons Villian
Unlike the shows previous villains, the fourth season will “be diving deep into a science” back in January Alex Kurtzman was very cryptic when discussing this season’s main adversary
There have been many kinds of villains over the course of Star Trek. What happens when the villain is not actually any kind of living, breathing entity, but something else? How do you solve that problem?
It Is About The Pandemic But Not!
Recently in an interview with Decider, Michelle Paradise explained how being in lockdown affected this season’s overall feel.
“We were in lockdown as we went into writing this season,” Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise told Decider during a recent press day for the series. “We were in lockdown when we started to shoot the season. But the pandemic, it was and is such a huge part of all of us as a global community … We couldn’t help but explore some of the things in our storytelling for Season 4, it was such a big thing.”
When elaborating more on this, Paradise added:
“not a one to one, and no-one is getting sick.”
She continued that, “In terms of what that means to us as humans, what that means thematically, for things we were experiencing, uncertainty, those definitely play out this season, and we look at those things in terms of what our characters are experiencing, how it affects their relationships, and all of that kind of thing. Along with action, and adventure, and fun. That spirit as well. It’s not a downer.”
Synopsis
Kobayashi Maru – After months spent reconnecting the Federation with distant worlds, Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to assist a damaged space station – a seemingly routine mission that reveals the existence of a terrifying new threat.
