Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Castings & Production Begins

As Trek fans, we always eagerly await news on any Star Trek show that’s in production, and today it is my pleasure to come to you with some news!.

As we all know Star Trek: Strange New Worlds started production on February 15th and besides knowing Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn will be returning as Captain Pike, Spock and Number. There hasn’t been much on who else will be joining them. Well, today all that changes with the announcement of five new cast members.

Paramount+ recently tweeted a short video of the cast saying those famous words “Space The Final Frontier” with a very excited looking Anson Mount saying “I’m just so excited to say those words” and within that video, we are introduced to the new cast, as of yet we do not know what characters they will be playing but it’s definitely looking to be a very diverse cast of talent!

Melissa Navia
(Paramount+) Melissa Navia

First, we have Writer and Comedian Melisa Navia who is best known for her acting roles in AMC’s critically acclaimed series “Dietland”, Showtime’s “Billions”, “Homeland” and “Love me Anyway” as well as a recent Off-Broadway debut in the musical “Bundle of Sticks”

Celia Rose Gooding

We are then introduced to Celia Rose Gooding, a Tony award nominee from Broadway, Celia is best known for her musical roles as Frankie Healy in Jagged Little Pill, with an Antonyo award for best-featured actor in a musical under her belt as well as nominations for a Grammy award we cannot wait to see what she brings to the crew!

Christina Chong

Next up is Christina Chong, a very notable actress, Christina has starred in several films including “Halo: nightfall”, “Johnny English Reborn”, “Tom and Jerry (2021)” and a deleted scene in “Star Wars The Force Awakens”. She is also very prominent in UK Tv media with time on the shows “Line of duty”, “Doctor Who”, “Monroe”, “Black Mirror” and “Whitechapel”

(Paramount+) Babs Olusanmokun

Babs Olusanmokun is also joining the cast, with credits from “Black Mirror” and “MARVEL The Defenders” Babs is no stranger to Sci Fi. He will also star in the upcoming “Dune” remake as well as “Wrath of Man”

Jess Bush
(Patramount+) Jess Bush

Finally, we have Jess Bush, This Australian actress started out in “Home and Away” and has since worked on “Les Norton” “Playing for Keeps” and the hit Australian show “Halifax – Retribution”

We cannot wait to see who these amazing and talented actors play in the Star Trek universe.

While there have been some rumours rolling about all over social media about possible characters we might see, to date there has been no official word from Paramount+ about any additional character identities outside of the three we already know those being Pike, Spock and Number.

Additionally notable is that so far, none of the other Enterprise crew from Discovery Season 2 or the trio of Enterprise-centric Short Treks has been tapped as series regulars, such as Samora Smallwood’s Lt. Amin, or Amrit Kaur’s Cadet Sidhu.

Along with the casting news, CBS has also released a new synopsis for Strange New Worlds giving us a better look at what the show is aiming to accomplish.

Star Trek: Strange New worlds” is based on the years’ Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favourites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.”

Along with the sysnopsis is was also annouced that the series premiere has been written by executive producer and co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman with the story by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman will also be directing the premiere episode. In a statement Goldsman said:

“In a career, there is never enough work that is pure joy. I feel that my friend Alex Kurtzman along with David Stapf at CBS Studios and Julie McNamara at Paramount+ have given me just that by letting me haunt the stock rooms of my favourite candy store and I am grateful. With a hell of a cast and undying love for the original series, we boldly go.”

The same statement quotes Goldsman’s co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers as well:

“I’m incredibly grateful to be working alongside Akiva and our brilliant, multi-faceted cast to help bring the adventures of the Starship Enterprise to new life. For someone who’s been dreaming of spaceships and alien worlds since I was little, this show is a dream come true.”
