Strange New Worlds Update – Renewed For Season 2?

With Strange New Worlds wrapping season 1 earlier this month, there are already some hints that this show will be getting a season 2.

The Star Trek: Discovery spin-off was made possible by the fans crying out for more adventures of Captain Pike and his crew ever since Captain Pike appeared in the Discovery season 2 opener “Brother”.

Well, earlier this month the first season of officially finished principal photography. Captain Pike himself (Anson Mount) addressed the fans who campaigned to make the series happen.

“It’s been such a journey,” he says. “It has been an honor to work with this cast and with this crew, and I just want to remind you that this is happening because of you, the fans. You made this happen, and we are so grateful for your support, for your continued support, for all of your well-wishes.”

But fans will have to wait a while longer yet as not only is there plenty of work to do on the shows premiere season but there is no firm release date…

Continuing his message Mount added:

“So, all of our footage now gets to go over to our incredible post-production team to begin their process, and hopefully we’ll be getting something out to you sometime next year,”

So far not much is known about the shows first season other than the show will be heading back to an episodic format and we will see some new actors appear on the show with the roles of Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), Cadet Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), Hemmer (Bruce Horak) and Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) all being cast in some old and new characters.

Further adding to the suspense of what to expect in an interview with SyFyWire Mount said :

“We’re going back to the big idea of the week, the new planet of the week. I think that in itself is going to be exciting for old school fans, as well as new ones.”

Even though there is no firm release date the show is scheduled to air sometime in 2022, most likely after Star Trek: Picard Season 2 which is due to air in Feb 2022.

Season 2?

Season Two Renewal?

It will come as no surprise that Strange New Worlds would get a second season, not only because of the fan outcry for the show in the first place but also that shows of this nature tend to get at least a 2 to 3 season order from the outset.

So, with that said this information is coming from not one, but two sources.

Firstly, the trade publication Production Weekly has listed the show for its second season in PRODUCTION WEEKLY – ISSUE 1270 – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2021 already under its working title LILY & ISAAC

Secondly, a well-known Production website stvplus.com/SpolierTV has Strange New Worlds season 2 listed to enter production in February 2022.

Although ViacomCBS has not announced anything officially of renewal, the fact it appears in a well-known trade publication used in the industry for casting and alike, it stands to reason that the official announcement will come.
