Lycia Naff is known best to Star Trek fans for her two appearances in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” as Ensign Sonya Gomez from the second season episodes “Q Who” and “Samaritan Snare.” Meant to be a love interest for Geordi LaForge.
However, things didn’t work out for Ensign Gomez after spilling her hot chocolate on Captain Picard. Lycia tells us the behind-the-scenes story about what happened to her character and what happened to the third episode she was meant to appear in that would have changed Geordi’s character.
About a year ago, we posted our interview with Lycia Naff, which quickly became one of our most popular episodes. Who knew that today she would make a triumphant return to the Star Trek universe, reprising her character of Ensign Sonya Gomez. Only this time, it’s Captain Gomez aboard the USS Archimedes! Yup, she got a promotion (take that, Ensign Kim) and appeared in the “Star Trek: Lower Decks” season 2 finale “First First Contact.”
Lycia rejoins Trek Untold for a second round to discuss what got her out of retirement to take the role, what it was like reprising this fan-favourite character, and all the in’s and out’s of being on a Star Trek show again.
