When you think Jean-Luc Picard, you automatically think Star Trek: The Next Generation, so when Star Trek: Picard was announced everyone hoped and dreamed that we would one day get a Next Gen reunion with the entire main cast.
Well, the hopes and dreams have been answered with the announcement that the entire main cast of The Next Generation will be reprising their roles for Star Trek: Picard season 3.
It seems fitting that this announcement comes on First Contact Day which was the Next Gens second feature film outing and directed by non-other than Will Riker himself Jonathan Frakes
The Saga Ends with Season Three
We have known for a while now that Picard season three would mark the end of Star Trek: Picard.
So, the return of Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), Marina Sirtis (Dianna Troi), Brent Spiner (Soong Dynasty), LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Michael Dorn (Worf), and Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher) seems a fitting way to bring Picard’s journey to an end.
Executive producer Terry Matalas who is the sole showrunner for Picard’s third season said of season three:
“I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise.
It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”
