WDIM? – Three New Star Trek Series in Development!

Hey everyone, and welcome to What Did I Miss, where today I am so happy to share some exciting information about the future of Star Trek. This news is concerning as many as three new series set in the Star Trek universe that we could be seeing in the next few years.

It is no secret that Paramount has been promoting Star Trek as their premier franchise, with five series set to air new material in 2022.  In fact, this past week at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour an executive from Paramount stated that the plan is for the franchise to be always on.

With at least one series airing new content each week for the foreseeable future.

This is a large commitment to this type of content, especially when you consider that the Star Trek shows that get produced now do not take up over twenty weeks of the year or more with new episodes like they used to, but instead are now produced in the eight-to-thirteen-episode range.

Also last week it was established that Star Trek: Picard might be ending after its upcoming third season, which is in the process of being filmed now.

So, this means that if Paramount+ wants to keep to its commitment of Star Trek being always on then something new with have to take its place, and it looks like we have a road map to what the next phase of new shows will be.

The last few weeks have been very busy in the world of Star Trek, and it seemed to kick off with the release of the final trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Picard, set to be released on March 3rd in the USA and March 4th for the rest of the globe.

Last year, Alex Kurtzman, the man in the captain’s chair of Star Trek, made it clear on many occasions that his team of producers and writers were working on new projects.

But he also stated that it would be hard to produce more than five series at a time, especially with as many as two Star Trek movies also in some state of pre-production at this time.

So, with Strange new worlds, Section 31, Starfleet Academy and a possible Anthology series Star Trek is really heading into a new golden age…
